Emmy Casper Joins CWF as a Wildlife Biologist

by Emmy Casper, Wildlife Biologist

Hi there! My name is Emmy Casper. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as a new staff member of Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. I am so excited to join the CWF team as a Wildlife Biologist working primarily on beach nesting and marsh nesting bird projects.

Relaxing with Bella and Peanut, two of my three dachshunds.

As a Jersey Shore native and self-proclaimed “Jersey girl,” I have always been passionate about protecting the local wildlife, especially along the coast. My love for shorebirds began as a child when I first observed piping plovers at Sandy Hook beaches. This passion followed me all the way to graduate school where I conducted my master’s thesis at Fordham University, studying shorebird diet during spring migration in the urban estuaries of Jamaica Bay. Since then, my passion for shorebird conservation has only grown stronger, amplified by my most recent role as a beach nesting bird technician for CWF, in which I spent three seasons monitoring nesting populations of piping plovers, American oystercatchers, and colonial bird species at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. This past summer I had the amazing opportunity to work as the crew leader and helped conduct new monitoring efforts at Horseshoe Island. I feel fortunate that these experiences have led to my new full-time role with CWF. I especially look forward to continuing my work with shorebirds, this time with American oystercatchers in the Delaware Bay region of New Jersey.

When I’m not working, you can probably find me birding, beachcombing, watching baseball (go Yankees!), or trying to corral my three dachshunds. I also dabble in crafts like knitting and embroidery, and I’m currently exploring nature photography as my newest creative endeavor.

When I’m not in New Jersey, I try to spend as much time as possible in Maine. Here I am exploring the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay.

I am so excited to continue my professional career with CWF, and I look forward to contributing to CWF’s mission to preserve and protect New Jersey wildlife! Please feel free to contact me at emmy.casper@conservewildlifenj.org.
