Blue Whale

Hello! I’m Bubby the blue whale. I’m the biggest animal known to exist, even bigger than the T. Rex! My body is long, slender, and big with a light shade of beautiful blue. You can find me in just about any ocean, except the Arctic Ocean. Krill are my favorite snacks. By the way, did I mention that I’m a mammal? Females give live birth and produce milk for our young.

My species was abundant in nearly all oceans until the beginning of the twentieth century. For more than forty years my species was hunted nearly to extinction. Thank goodness the international community protected us in 1966! A 2002 report estimated there were 5,000 to 12,000 blue whales worldwide. Hopefully there are more now.

You can help though, for instance don’t throw trash into the ocean. (That’s why garbage cans were invented). If you see garbage on the beach please report it or clean it up. At high tide the ocean might bring that trash with it, and that could end up in my stomach. Trust me that is the last thing I need in my diet.
