Introducing Our new calendar featuring Our rare wildlife
We are pleased to announce the publication of the
2008 Species on the Edge Calendar!
The award winning artwork and essays from the 2007 Species on the Edge Art & Essay Contest are beautifully represented in this full color 12-month calendar.
Inspired by some of our rarest wildlife residents, the 2008 Calendar showcases the award winning art and essays of 20 fifth grade students from across New Jersey. Each of the youngsters was a winner in the fifth annual Species on the Edge Art and Essay Contest presented by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ. This contest encourages students to explore the wildlife that exists right here in New Jersey and express how human actions can protect the future of rare wildlife.
In this contest, participants draw a picture of one of New Jersey’s 73 endangered and threatened species and compose an essay from the animal's point of view about how the animal became rare and what we can do to help protect it.
“By creating these works of art and the essays about the wildlife species, the children worked as wildlife biologists. They may not have seen the animal but they researched it – what it looks like, where it lives, and what are the threats to its future. Because of this contest, these children now have a better understanding of the wildlife of NJ and what we need to do to keep them in our future.” says Margaret O’Gorman, Executive Director of the foundation.
We thank the contest sponsors who helped make this contest and the calendar a possibility. Our sponsors include the New Jersey Education Association, Atlantic City Electric, PSE&G, Elizabethtown Gas Company, ShopRite Supermarkets, and International Paper Company.
All proceeds from the sale of the calendars will support our mission to protect New Jersey’s endangered and threatened wildlife through research, conservation, and education programs.
