Spotted salamander congress

After a rainy-night amphibian migration in West Milford (April 6, 2011), spotted salamanders swarmed in a roadside vernal pool. It's rare to see this brief mating dance, where the males try to impress females into selecting their genetic "packets" (called spermatophores) from the pool floor.
