Golden-Winged Warbler

Oh Hello!! Sorry, I was busy eating lunch. It was small insects and spiders from twigs and leaves. That is why I couldn’t talk to you. As you could see, I am a golden-winged warbler, but I like people to call me “Goldy.” Today, I will tell you facts about me and how you could help me and my family live safely.

As you know, I am a pretty small bird. I am only 5.1 inches long. I love to eat small insects and spiders. I have a yellow crown and a black throat. I have a black line through my eye and cheek. But my sister looks different. She has a greenish-yellow crown and it’s duller than mine. She has a gray line through her eye and cheek. Her face markings and throat are gray. Our breeding season starts in April and ends in August. Mom and Dad build the nest in a tree and sometimes Mom lays 4 to 5 eggs. Mom takes care of the eggs for 8 to 10 days. Then, we hatch and Mom and Dad take care of us for another 10 days. After that, we are on our own to get food for ourselves.

We are endangered because of the blue-winged warblers. When humans cut down their forests, they usually come into our breeding forest. So when they come to our forest, they take our food, our places to sleep and our nesting areas. I need help from you humans!! Please stop cutting down the trees in the forests. We need food and shelter in order to survive.

Thank you, and please try your best to save us.
