Eastern Tiger Salamander
Hi there! I’m a Eastern Tiger Salamander also known as Ambystoma tigrinum tigrinum (my scientific name). You would usually find me in an upland and wetland habitat. My salamander friends and I are usually black, brown, or olive with scattered yellow, or brownish blotches, spots, and streaks, and a blotchy, olive yellow underside. I can live up to 16 years and I can be 15-22 centimeters long!
The most delicious foods I love to eat are earthworms, slugs, and insects and things that try to eat me are snakes, birds, owls, bobcats, and badgers. I bet you didn’t know that I am a species of mole salamander and I am the biggest type of salamander in New Jersey!
I’m endangered because of habitat loss and pollution in our breeding ponds. You can save me and my friends from dying off by making sure that there is no trash on the ground and by not destroying any of our breeding ponds.
