Bats have a reputation for being spooky or dangerous – but they are actually some of the most beneficial animals for people! They keep mosquitoes in check, preventing itchy bites, and are estimated to be worth up to $53 billion a year in reduced crop damage and pesticide use in the United States. New Jersey harbors a wide variety of habitats. From the barrier beaches and coastal marshes of the ocean edge to the highlands, ridges and valleys of the northwest, NJ is situated at a biological crossroads unique to our geographic area. With over 500 species, New Jersey ranks as one of the most diverse wildlife habitats in the country. Peregrine falcons nest on our bridges and skyscrapers, osprey fish in our marshes and estuaries and the stealth like bobcat lives in the inner most secluded sections of New Jersey’s forests.

Presented by David Wheeler, CWF's Executive Director. Mr. Wheeler has worked on wildlife conservation and environmental issues in New Jersey and beyond for more than a decade. He is the author of the book Wild New Jersey: Nature Adventures in the Garden State, and a contributor to the book, Bald Eagles in the Meadowlands and Beyond. Mr. Wheeler earned his M.B.A. from New York University's Stern School of Business and his B.A. from American University in Washington DC.
